It’s Back to School Season Already!
While we are still in the height of summer, I’m already seeing all the “back to school” advertising to get kids excited for new clothes and new school supplies. While the material things certainly seem important in grade school, I can’t help but wonder how many people see a new school year as a fresh start.
Summer break was the perfect time to reinvent yourself a bit. Want to get better at basketball or drawing? Maybe even get ahead in some of your studies? Summer gave you plenty of time to practice. Maybe you were even lucky enough to attend a camp focused on your interests. When you returned to school in the Fall, you might have had a new backpack or outfit, but you also had something more important. You had confidence in your new skill. You had hope for the year ahead. You released any baggage from last year and welcomed this new beginning with open arms.
A Fresh Start as an Adult
How often do we get these fresh starts as adults? Changing careers can certainly bring on such feelings. Maybe even getting a new boss, or expanding your business into untapped markets feels like a fresh start.
This is what really draws me to coaching. So often, we can’t “see the forest through the trees” or feel overwhelmed by things outside of our control. Helping clients acknowledge their experience and see things through a new lens has gotten people “unstuck” and allowed them the fresh start they needed for career advancement.
When was the last time you had a fresh start?
