A Break from the Norm
Do you love being tethered to a desk while you work? Whether or not you have ADHD, there’s a chance you benefit from switching things up a bit.
For some, sitting in a conference call, videos off, is an invitation for distraction. Individuals may fidget or doodle to keep their hands busy while listening. But, what if they start multitasking to the point that they fully forget they’re on the original call? That’s no good!
Kinesthetic Processing
There are kinesthetic processors all around us in the workplace. Maybe they fidget or doodle, like the example above. Maybe they pace around conference rooms or do other physical activity to maintain focus and retain information.
For a recent audio-only call, a client decided to walk around the neighborhood while listening in. It was springtime, and everything was blooming. An important detail was shared on this work call as the client walked past a flowering tree, and continues to tie those memories together. Now, that magnolia tree always reminds them of that call and a particular work request.
Imagine how hard it is to differentiate all the info a kinesthetic processor must take in, when they are always sitting in the exact same spot. We are conditioned to believe that we all learn and process the same way, and that just isn’t true.
Some prefer learning by listening. Others prefer talking through ideas or seeing pictures or videos. Do you need to see the big picture or be able to trust your gut? Learn more about processing modalities to create a better work environment for you and your team.
